In the society I lived in, young women still experience discrimination based on their gender and age. Young women faced critical gaps in finding resources to support their education, skills development, and lack of mentorships. These have had a significant impact on the ability of young women to realize their full potential as leaders.

I and other’s Harpswell Scholars worked with Asia Foundation in the last two years as a leadership trainer under the program called “Khmer Youth Association” — KYA.

The school is located in rural areas, where students have less social interaction about life in the city. Therefore, I think it’s a good opportunity to help guide students from impoverished backgrounds and lead some general discussions on transitioning to studying in the city. Some of the male students have volunteered to join the group study, in order to help raise women’s voices in their community as well.

At the end of the sessions, we have provided some books from our sponsor Menno De Block on his book called “Diving Deep, Going Far”.

“Diving Deep, Going Far” — A ‘reality novel’ based on the remarkable lives of over twenty-five young Cambodian women, Diving deep, going far tells the stories of a generation that is ready to change the future of their country. (pg.4)

The team has helped provide several books to insert in Library for empowering young women and youth leadership and critical thinking — (2019)

We’re so thankful to Asia Foundation for always giving these young scholars an opportunity to pursue their higher education. We are so proud to be a part of youth empowerment.
