Empower Young Women from Impoverished Background
Leadership Training to High School Students in Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia.
In the society I lived in, young women still experience discrimination based on their gender and age. Young women faced critical gaps in finding resources to support their education, skills development, and lack of mentorships. These have had a significant impact on the ability of young women to realize their full potential as leaders.
I and other’s Harpswell Scholars worked with Asia Foundation in the last two years as a leadership trainer under the program called “Khmer Youth Association” — KYA.
The school is located in rural areas, where students have less social interaction about life in the city. Therefore, I think it’s a good opportunity to help guide students from impoverished backgrounds and lead some general discussions on transitioning to studying in the city. Some of the male students have volunteered to join the group study, in order to help raise women’s voices in their community as well.
At the end of the sessions, we have provided some books from our sponsor Menno De Block on his book called “Diving Deep, Going Far”.
